PSGHS: Biosecurity at Shows and Sales

Ìý

As you prepare to attend shows and sales, please remember theseÌýimportant biosecurity rules.
Following them helpsÌýprotect your flock or herdÌýandÌýmaintain your MV/CAE accreditation.

Ìý

Before You Travel

  • Accredited animals mustÌýnot mixÌýwith non‑accredited animals.
  • Do not transport accredited and non‑accredited animals together (unless there are solid partitions and separate ramps).
  • Clean and disinfectÌýtrailers, pens and cratesÌýbefore use.

Ìý

At Shows and Sales

  • Keep accredited animalsÌýseparate at all times:
    • Sheep: 2 metres.
    • Goats: 3 metres.
  • Or use aÌýsolid barrierÌý(minimum 2m for sheep, 3m for goats).
  • Shared airspace is only allowed forÌýshort stays (up to 10 days).
  • Animals must have aÌýcurrent Health Status Report.

Ìý

Reduce Disease Risk

  • NoÌýnose‑to‑nose contactÌýwith non‑accredited animals.
  • DoÌýnot share equipmentÌýorÌýtup taxisÌýwith non-accredited animals. Tup taxis should beÌýthoroughly disinfectedÌýbetween animals of differing health status.
  • Do not house accredited and non‑accredited animals in theÌýsame airspace.
  • Do not graze accredited animals on fields used by non‑accredited stock in theÌýlast 7 days.

Ìý

Returning Home

Your animals willÌýlose accredited statusÌýif:

  • They had contact with non‑accredited animals, or
  • Biosecurity rules were not followed.

If contact happens:

  • Isolate the animal immediately.
  • Testing and waiting periods will apply.
  • Failure to follow rules can lead toÌýsuspension of accreditation.

Ìý

Please Remember

Good biosecurity protectsÌýyour stockÌýandÌýother members.
Shows and sales are higher‑risk places so it is important to take extra care.

If you are unsure,Ìýcontact the PSGHS Team before the event.
