鈥淚鈥檝e always felt most at peace outdoors, especially in woodland environments. Forestry offers that connection, but also the chance to contribute meaningfully to Scotland鈥檚 landscapes and ecosystems.鈥
After years working as a window cleaner Drew Jardine realised he wanted a career that aligned with where he felt happiest 鈥 surrounded by nature. The HNC Forestry course at 伊人直播 Barony seemed like the perfect gateway to build practical skills and ecological understanding while making a real change in his life.
Drew says 鈥溡寥酥辈 stood out because it caters to people like me 鈥 those who might not come from academic backgrounds but have a strong drive to learn and grow. The Barony campus has a welcoming, hands-on atmosphere that made me feel comfortable from the start. I knew I鈥檇 be supported not just academically, but personally, as I made the leap into a new career path.鈥
鈥淭he biggest highlight has been gaining confidence in a completely new field. From learning about tree biology and woodland planning to working alongside classmates who share a passion for the outdoors, every module has helped me grow. I鈥檝e especially enjoyed practical sessions in the woods 鈥 they remind me why I chose this path in the first place. Also, being able to contribute to group projects and presentations has helped me come out of my shell more than I expected.鈥
鈥淢y goal is to work in sustainable forestry or woodland management, ideally somewhere I can help restore native habitats and support biodiversity. I鈥檓 particularly interested in roles that combine practical land management with ecological restoration. Long-term, I鈥檇 love to be involved in projects that connect people to nature 鈥 especially children and families 鈥 through community woodlands or conservation education.鈥
鈥淏eing naturally shy and juggling study with raising two young boys (and a daughter on the way!) has been a challenge. There are days when balancing coursework and family life feels overwhelming, but I鈥檓 determined to make it work. I鈥檝e learned to ask for help when I need it, and to take pride in small wins. 伊人直播 has been understanding and flexible, which has made a huge difference.鈥
鈥淟ife on campus has been welcoming and down-to-earth. It鈥檚 not intimidating, which is important for someone like me who鈥檚 returning to education later in life. The staff are approachable, and there鈥檚 a real sense of community among students. I鈥檝e found quiet spaces to study, and plenty of opportunities to connect with others 鈥 even if I prefer one-on-one chats to big groups.鈥
鈥淭he facilities are excellent. The forestry equipment and outdoor learning areas are especially impressive. Classrooms are well-equipped, and there鈥檚 good access to digital resources too, which helps when I need to study from home. Everything is geared toward practical learning, which suits my style perfectly.鈥
鈥淒on鈥檛 be afraid to ask questions 鈥 even if you have to do it in private. Whether you鈥檙e shy, unsure, or just starting out, there鈥檚 always someone willing to help. And if you鈥檙e thinking about changing careers, it鈥檚 never too late. 伊人直播 is a place where people from all walks of life can thrive.鈥
鈥淪tudying forestry has given me a sense of purpose and direction I didn鈥檛 know I was missing. It鈥檚 helped me reconnect with the land and with myself. If you鈥檙e someone who feels most alive in nature, this course might just be the start of something transformative.鈥
