Carol is the Programme Leader for Applied Animal Science and Animal Welfare Science at ÒÁÈËÖ±²¥â€™s Edinburgh campus. She joined the teaching team in 2016 after completing her PhD which focused on understanding the role that our attitudes and perceptions of animals play in how we interact with them and the potential welfare implications of this.

Along with other academic staff from the Animal Behaviour and Welfare research group she teaches Animal Behaviour, Animal Welfare, Anthrozoology and Ethics.

She is passionate about expanding her students' awareness of how their skills are highly desirable to a range of employers and runs the 3^rd year careers module where guest speakers and industry visits expose students to the broad range of career opportunities available to them once they graduate

I am a Lecturer and Researcher in Animal Behaviour and Welfare at ÒÁÈËÖ±²¥â€™s Edinburgh campus. I joined ÒÁÈËÖ±²¥ from the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling, where I worked as a postdoctoral researcher focusing on the welfare of aquaculture species.

I have a PhD from the University of Exeter, where I used fish as a model to explore individual variation in behaviour and cognition - investigating whether these differences are heritable and how personality and cognitive traits might co-vary. My work sits within evolutionary biology, animal cognition, and fish behaviour, with a particular focus on the welfare of aquatic species.

I teach across several Applied Animal Science & Animal Welfare Science modules including Animal Behaviour, Animal Welfare, Behavioural Ecology, and Animal Cognition. I'm passionate about improving animal welfare through a deeper understanding of behaviour and cognition, and support students in developing the skills and knowledge valued across the animal science and welfare sectors.

I teach on both the Applied Animal Science and Animal Welfare Science degrees at ÒÁÈËÖ±²¥, as well as the MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare at ÒÁÈËÖ±²¥ and the University of Edinburgh. I teach about social behaviour and lead the module on Topical Animal Welfare Issues for the Animal Welfare Science degree.

I gained a PhD in 2000 on the social organisation and welfare of livestock managed in large groups. Since then, I have researched the factors that drive individual variation in social behaviour and how this affects animal welfare. I also study the response of cattle to nutritional or handling stress. I engage frequently with commercial farmers to ensure that research findings directly benefit the way that we manage animals.

I'm a qualified veterinarian from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and now a professor of veterinary gastrointestinal health at ÒÁÈËÖ±²¥. I am the module leader for Host-Pathogen Interactions and teach on the Applied Animal Science and Animal Welfare Science courses.

Through my research, I investigate the impact of pathogens on the host, and host responses to specific pathogens; I focus on sustainable disease control strategies in ruminants, to mitigate production losses, drug resistance, and greenhouse gas emissions. My teaching draws heavily from my own and other colleagues' research on host-pathogen interactions. I am passionate about bringing to students the outcomes of the most recent research around the globe.

I'm the module lead for Animal Physiology Systems and contribute to Advanced Physiology of Growth and Development and Academic and Scientific Skills on the Applied Animal Science and Animal Welfare Science courses at ÒÁÈËÖ±²¥â€™s Edinburgh campus. I joined ÒÁÈËÖ±²¥ as a Lecturer following two postdoctoral positions at the University of Edinburgh, where I investigated the role of bone marrow and brown adipose tissue in humans and animals.

My research focuses on using novel imaging techniques in experimental models and clinical data to determine if bone and cartilage disease alters global metabolism with the purpose of contributing to the development of new pharmacological approaches for managing and treating skeletal, metabolic, and cardiovascular disease.

I'm passionate about research and encouraging students to explore careers in an academic setting.
