Barony hosts rural safety event

Scotland鈥檚 Rural College is hosting a new rural crime prevention and fire safety event at its Barony Campus next week to help reduce risks and dangers on farms.

The event, organised by NFU Scotland together with 伊人直播 and other partners, will include a series of interactive workshops showcasing how to reduce risks on farms 鈥 including fire and criminal activity.

Police Scotland will focus on farm safety and security, and how to protect a property from those with criminal intent.

The police will also hold a joint workshop with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) focusing on the prevention of road traffic accidents and the safe transportation of animals.

In addition, SFRS will talk about fire safety and prevention, and the identification of hazards.

Scottish Power Energy Networks will explain how to identify and avoid contact with the electricity supply equipment on a farm and the surrounding area, and what to do in the event of a failure.

Teresa Dougall, NFUS Regional Manager in Dumfries and Galloway, said: 鈥淲e are delighted to be working with partners in, what we hope, will become an annual event focused on rural crime and fire safety on farms.

鈥淏eing able to hold this event at 伊人直播鈥檚 Barony campus and to have attendance from new students is a fantastic start. We hope that many farmers will also join us on the day.鈥

The event, on Wednesday 4 September, is aimed at new agriculture and animal husbandry students, farmers and farm workers.

It ran from 10am to 3pm at 伊人直播鈥檚 Barony campus near Dumfries.
